For Broker Associate Lyn Harvie, simplifying the process is always at the forefront of her dedication to client service. An experienced investor, Lyn explains that she first obtained her real estate license “to buy properties for myself. I had no intention of selling real estate full time.”

Now, with nearly a decade of experience as a professional in the real estate business, Lyn has a wealth of experience and a diverse skill set that translates into fantastic results for her clients. The recipient of Baird & Warner’s Chairman’s Club Award, Lyn has an unparalleled ability to build relationships and close deals for her clients.

In fact, Lyn’s journey with real estate started well before she began helping others achieve their real estate goals. As a child, she watched as her parents bought, improved, and sold properties, and as she got older, she tried her hand at investing herself. This year she completed her second rehabilitation project, a gut rehab. As Lyn describes it, “I did everything from new electrical, plumbing, flooring, bathroom, and kitchen. It was a ton of work but very rewarding. My dad and I worked on it together and it was great to get that quality time with him. The process included a lot of headaches, but also a lot of laughter.”

Lyn started out in a field very different from real estate, graduating with her PhD in physical therapy and building a successful career as a physical therapist, working first with the Miami VA in the Spinal Cord and Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic, and later in the public sector. During her time as a professional physical therapist, Lyn never considered a career as a broker. However, she never strayed too far from her childhood love of real estate projects, picking up on her parents’ practice of buying and rehabilitating investment properties. Lyn pursued her real estate license, in fact, to make this process easier for herself. However, after shadowing a senior broker at Baird & Warner, she found a love for the work, as well as a family atmosphere at Baird & Warner’s Lincoln Park office. In Lyn’s own words:

When I first came to the Baird & Warner Lincoln Park office, it felt like home. The office was competitive but also collaborative, offering the opportunity to learn from other brokers. I have been able to watch other agents grow in their business and give back to new agents, and everyone wants to see everyone else succeed.

Lyn’s philosophy with her clients is similarly collaborative. While buying and selling real estate is often thought about as a nerve-racking roller coaster, Lyn prides herself on her ability to simplify the process for her clients. For Lyn, “hearing how fun and easy I made the process for my clients is the ultimate reward.”

Relationships and referrals are the key to a great real estate business, and no one is better at building those relationships than Lyn Harvie. Many of her clients have become long-term friends, and even in this difficult year, having strong relationships with peers has been what has allowed Lyn to complete some complex deals. Buyers and sellers who work with Lyn can know that she won’t disappear after a deal is done — she keeps her clients apprised of important updates via mail, email, and social media, and has developed long friendships with many of her clients.

Asked if she has any words of wisdom for new agents, Lyn says simply, “be a student. There are always new technologies and information that can improve your business, and as soon as you decide you know enough, you’re going to struggle.”

In her free time, Lyn takes sailing lessons and can often be found practicing her craft on the boat with her boyfriend, Jeff. Lyn enjoys sailing because, in her words, “ it’s something that requires you to be present and paying attention,” and it forces her to put her phone and work away and take a break. Lyn also enjoys seeing concerts at Pritzker Pavilion and checking out new Chicagoland restaurants with friends.

Lyn is also dedicated to her two major charitable projects: Housing Opportunities for Women, a Chicagoland nonprofit with a mission of providing assistance to prevent homelessness, where she served as an associate board member for three years; and Your Children’s Bookshelf, dedicated to providing free children’s books to young readers.
